Through a joint MIT and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) program, I taught a class to undergraduates from the two institutions. During the course of a summer, the mostly freshman (and non engineering majors) designed and built custom, 1-seater, electric boats that were subsequently raced on the Charles River. As the sole instructor for the class, I redesigned the curriculum to incorporate better building and learning practices. It was largley agreed upon that this was the year with both the best boats, and the greatest student improvement throughout the summer. I not only learned about building composite boats from scratch, but also gained great experience in leading projects and improving upon existing curricula.
