As an avid amateur chef, I was sadden to realize the lack of counter space in my kitchen. My roommate and I looked online, but any counter height table that looked reasonably good was hundreds of dollars above our budget, this spurred us to build a counter-height table for our kitchen. I went to home depot and bought 24 pine 2x4's. Using a table saw, a mortise joint machine, and many many nails, I built a table with two shelves and hooks to hang pots and pans. To protect our table during usual kitchen wear and tear, I used stain resistant paint and coated the minwax wood stain with polyurethane to minimize water seeping into the wood. The table has made life so much easier in our kitchen!
